چکیده

In the main part of our study we examined the changes of the retinal branch vessel diameters during dark and light adaptation. We used a "hybrid" technique, using the newly developed Retinal Vessel Analyzer (RVA) to analyze recordings of images made with a scanning laser ophthalmoscope (SLO) employing near-infrared illumination. Since there have been no previous reports of using SLO data with the RVA software in a clinical context, additional tests were performed to assess the reproducibility and the sensitivity of this combined method. The significance of the results given here is further discussed in the main paper.

The diameters of the human retinal branch vessels do not change in darkness.

PURPOSE To examine whether the diameters of retinal branch vessels of the human eye change during dark and light adaptation. METHODS Images (S-VHS recordings) were obtained of the peripapillary region in 11 eyes of 11 healthy young adults (seven women, four men; mean age, 26.4 years). The images were made under a sequence of different illumination conditions (light, 30 minutes of darkness, li...

Automatic Optic Disc Center and Boundary Detection in Color Fundus Images

Accurately detection of retinal landmarks, like optic disc, is an important step in the computer aided diagnosis frameworks. This paper presents an efficient method for automatic detection of the optic disc’s center and estimating its boundary. The center and initial diameter of optic disc are estimated by employing an ANN classifier. The ANN classifier employs visual features of vessels and th...

Effect of laser photocoagulation on the retinal vessel diameter in branch and macular vein occlusion.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the response of retinal vessel diameters to photocoagulation treatment and their role for the success of laser treatment in patients with retinal vein occlusion. METHODS The study included 14 patients with branch vein occlusion or macular vein occlusion. The ophthalmologic examination included best-corrected visual acuity, biomicroscopy, fundus photography, and fluore...

Using Temperature of IR Sources for Assessing Photochemical and Aphakic Retinal Hazard

Introduction Blue light is a part of the spectrum with the highest energy content, which can reach the retina. The damage that it can cause to the retina is called photochemical or blue-light retinal injury. For the retinal injury assessment of the photochemical and aphakic retinal hazards in the wavelength range of 300-700 nm, use of effective spectral radiance limits (W.m-2.sr-1) seems to be ...

Morphological Exudate Detection in Retinal Images using PCA-based Optic Disc Removal

Diabetic retinopathy lesion detection such as exudate in fundus image of retina can lead to early diagnosis of the disease. Retinal image includes dark areas such as main blood vessels and retinal tissue and also bright areas such as optic disk, optical fibers and lesions e.g. exudate. In this paper, a multistage algorithm for the detection of exudate in foreground is proposed. The algorithm se...
